Traveling Medicine Shows
The days of the old time traveling medicine shows seem a distant memory. Join us at the Pikes
Peak Historical Society May Chautauqua for a glimpse into some of the history surrounding this
era of American merchandising and entertainment. Find out more about “snake oil” and
intriguing patent remedies, all touting to “cure what ails you.” Surprisingly, some are still on the
market today! Kathy Herrin will present an interesting program, including some fascinating
photos, about Traveling Medicine Shows.
Kathy Herrin has spent more than two decades in the Criminal Justice field. She took a break, of
almost two years, to serve as the Director of Academic Services at the Fremont Campus of
Pueblo Community College. She returned to the Probation Department in March 2017. Past
probation work included two years as the Victim Services Officer in Pueblo and about two years
supervising offenders. Prior to her Probation career, Herrin was with the Cañon City Police
Department, where some of her duties included Field Training for new officers, Crisis
Negotiation and Crime Prevention and Victim Assistance.
The Pikes Peak Historical Society invites you to learn more about the Old Time Traveling
Medicine Shows at the PPHS monthly Chautauqua on Sunday, May 20th at 2pm at the Florissant
Library. The Library is located adjacent to the Florissant Community Park on 334 Circle Drive in
Florissant. This program is presented as a public service of the Pikes Peak Historical Society in
partnership with the Rampart Range Library System. Admission is free and refreshments are
served. No reservation is required but arrive early, seating is limited. For more information call
719-748-8259 or 719-748-3861.
